I spent two weeks volunteering at Study Jordanian Arabic School in the Music and Art Program, and it was one of the most enriching experiences of my life.
During my stay, we visited several art museums and cultural spaces in Amman, which helped me grasp both Jordan’s history and its contemporary art scene. One of the highlights for me was watching traditional Dabke. The energy, the music, and the sense of community in the dance were absolutely beautiful. We also had the chance to meet local artists and hear about their work and creative journeys, which was incredibly inspiring.
I stayed with a host family, and this made my experience even more meaningful. My host mom was amazing — very kind, generous, and always caring. We had breakfast together every morning, which became one of my favorite parts of the day. It made me feel truly at home and let me experience genuine Jordanian hospitality.
I was also invited to enjoy traditional Mansaf, a truly special cultural experience. Sharing this national dish with others made me feel included and welcomed. We also shared delicious Kunafa, and, of course, enjoyed shisha in the evenings. These moments of sharing food, tea, and conversation are memories I will always keep with me.
During my time at the center, I also took Jordanian Arabic lessons with Samer, who is an amazing teacher. He is patient, encouraging, and explains everything clearly. Even in just two weeks, I felt much more confident speaking Arabic thanks to his support.
Kamal and Rafat welcomed me with open arms from the very first day. They made sure I felt comfortable and part of the community. They also gave me many great recommendations for places to visit in Jordan, which helped me explore and appreciate the country even more.
These two weeks were full of art, culture, learning, and meaningful connections. I highly recommend Study Jordanian Arabic School to anyone from Spain or anywhere in the world who wants to volunteer and truly immerse themselves in Jordanian culture. It was an unforgettable journey.
